The company is broadening its custom stonework and retaining wall offerings as demand for outdoor living spaces rises.

Evergreen Landscape Pros has expanded its hardscape and stonework services for homes and businesses across the Santa Fe area. The expanded service line covers custom retaining walls, stone patios, walkways, and other permanent outdoor features built from natural stone and concrete. The company said the move responds to steady regional demand for durable, low-maintenance outdoor living spaces.

Outdoor construction has shifted from a luxury upgrade to a standard part of home design. The National Association of Home Builders reports that the share of new single-family homes built with patios rose from 47 percent in 2008 to more than 64 percent in 2023. Market researcher Mordor Intelligence projects that design-build and hardscape services in the United States will grow at roughly 8 percent a year through 2031, outpacing the landscaping market overall.

"People here want outdoor spaces that hold up to our climate and still feel like part of the home," said Kevin Lopez, Owner of Evergreen Landscape Pros. "Stone has been part of the built landscape in northern New Mexico for centuries, so when we build a wall or a patio, we think about how it will look and work decades from now, not just next summer."

The expanded service pairs design consultation and custom stonework with full installation, so clients can review materials, layout, and drainage before any work begins. Projects range from courtyard walls and flagstone walkways to larger retaining walls engineered for the area's slopes and seasonal runoff. Evergreen Landscape Pros serves Santa Fe and nearby communities, including Eldorado, Galisteo, Tesuque, and Pojoaque.

In a high-desert climate, hardscape design has to account for intense sun, freeze-and-thaw cycles, and sudden runoff during monsoon season. The company builds with weather-resistant materials such as flagstone, fieldstone, and concrete pavers, and it grades and drains each site so that walls and patios stay stable through seasonal extremes. Where it fits the design, permeable paving and dry-stacked stone are used to slow runoff and let water return to the ground rather than pool on hard surfaces.

"Every property sits differently on the land, so we start by walking the site with the owner and mapping how they want to use the space," Lopez said. "A patio that wraps a portal or a wall that follows the natural grade should look like it was always meant to be there."

The expanded service is aimed at both homeowners and commercial clients, including property managers and businesses that want low-upkeep grounds. Residential projects account for about 60 percent of landscaping demand in the United States, according to Mordor Intelligence, as remote work and more time at home push outdoor areas toward year-round use. Evergreen Landscape Pros said it is scheduling new hardscape projects through the current building season.

The expanded service also slots into the company's wider landscaping work, letting one crew handle design, planting, irrigation, and stone features on the same project. In a region where water use is a constant concern, that often means pairing patios and walkways with drip irrigation and drought-tolerant plantings, so finished yards need less water and upkeep over time.

Natural stone has a long history in northern New Mexico, where adobe, Spanish, and Pueblo Revival architecture set the visual tone for much of the built landscape. The company said it favors local and regionally appropriate materials so that new walls, steps, and patios match the surrounding architecture.
